Plan decision support for benefits brokers

Fly through open enrollment.

Benpilot simulates a full year of healthcare for every employee's household and recommends the statistically optimal plan, including whether a family should split across two employers' menus. You bring it to your clients. It makes you the hero.

No PHI. No claims feeds. Live in ~30 days.

The problem

Health insurance is the most expensive product families buy blind

Employees anchor on premium, default to last year's plan, and pick the "safe" middle option. Your team absorbs the questions every fall, and the regret cases every spring. Static comparison charts don't fix any of it.

How it works

Five minutes from questions to a confident choice

Answer a short questionnaire

Family demographics, chronic-condition count (never the diagnoses), expected usage, and a quick gamified risk check. No documents required.

Benpilot simulates the year

Thousands of claim scenarios run against every plan the household can access: premiums, deductibles, coinsurance, and out-of-pocket maximums, across both employers' menus.

Get a ranked recommendation

The best plan (or family split), total expected cost, worst-case exposure, and a plain-English explanation of why.

In back-testing, Benpilot's top recommendation is the statistically optimal plan ~8 times out of 10, versus roughly coin-flip odds for unaided employees.

Cross-plan analysis

The question no other tool asks: should this family split?

Two-income households are the norm, and almost nobody optimizes across both benefit menus. Benpilot simulates every combination automatically.

Employer A (your client)

  • HDHP + HSA
  • PPO 1000
  • PPO 500 buy-up

Employer B (spouse)

  • HMO Select
  • PPO 750
  • EPO Value
Recommended split
  • Parent 1 + kids → Employer A HDHP + HSA
  • Parent 2 → Employer B PPO 750, covering ongoing specialist care

For brokers

Built to make you the hero of open enrollment

Benpilot is broker-aligned by design: it never disintermediates you, never sells direct against you, and every screen can carry your brand.

Differentiate in finalist meetings

Walk in with a simulation engine your competitors' spreadsheets can't match. A live demo closes rooms.

Retain your book

Engagement metrics and documented employee savings give every renewal conversation hard proof of your value.

Consult with data

Population-level plan-fit analytics show where the current menu fails employees, fueling next year's plan design work.

Add a revenue line

Resell with margin or white-label under your own brand. Benpilot grows your top line, not just your workload.

Why it works

The math holds up, and it surprises people

~80% of simulated households are guided to the statistically optimal plan Estimate from internal back-testing across simulated household profiles.

The "safe middle plan" myth

In our modeling of real plan menus, the middle-tier plan, the one most employees default to as the compromise choice, was almost never the optimal pick. Households were better off going low-premium with an HSA, or buying full protection. That's exactly the guidance no static chart provides.

The models are built by credentialed actuaries. No diagnoses or claims stored, which means a faster security review and easier employer sign-off.

Common questions

What brokers ask us first

Does this replace me with my clients?

No, and it's built so it can't. Benpilot never sells direct to your groups, carries your brand on every screen if you want it, and hands you the engagement data. It automates the plan-choice math, which frees your team for the consultative work clients actually pay you for.

What data does it collect? Is there a security review?

Ages, sex, a count of chronic conditions (never the diagnoses), and expected usage. No claims feeds, no PHI, nothing to integrate on day one, which is why employer security sign-off is fast and implementation takes weeks, not quarters.

How is this different from the modeling tool in our ben-admin platform?

Most built-in tools are premium calculators with a couple of usage sliders. Benpilot runs thousands of simulated plan-years per household, models worst-case exposure alongside expected cost, and is the only tool that evaluates splitting a family across two employers' menus.

Who pays: the employer or us?

Either model works. Most brokers pass the PEPM through to the employer as part of the benefits package and keep the resell margin; some absorb Core pricing for key accounts as a retention play. We'll help you position it either way.

What happens after we reach out?

A 30-minute pre-flight briefing: we run a live simulation on a plan menu you know well, walk through the recommendation logic, and answer the hard questions. If it's a fit, we'll map next steps together. Many brokers start with a single group before rolling out across their book. No commitment either way.
